Left 4 Dead review

Postby PsychoDuck on Thu May 21, 2009 5:50 am

"Ever since the first zombie film was unleashed upon the world back in 1932 (Yes, it's been that long), the living dead have infected every form of media imaginable, from books, comics and TV shows, and all the way up the technological ladder to video games. With most zombie games, there's one player, on their own, against hundreds of thousands of generic zombies. Leave it to Valve to shake it all up and drop Left 4 Dead in our laps."

Even if you're not into the type of game Left 4 Dead is, I still think you'd enjoy this review. I feel I've done some of my best writing in there.

Nice review, but what about that new scale you have for your reviews?

Nice review, very detailed and lengthy. Overall a very good job.

Just one a few things, although on paper the 360 and PC versions are near identical. It should be noted that you cannot bring up the console on the 360, nor can you play mods. :(

Oh and the events are called "Crescendo Events".

An explanation for all who are asking

The mod scene is pretty calm at the moment, with the SDK for Left 4 Dead only just having been released. As for the console, it's more used for hacking and messing around than anything else, so I really don't consider it that big a deal if its gone. Heck, I've never even used it myself!

As for "Crescendo Events", I knew of those, but I preferred not to cram a bunch of new terminology down the throats of the readers, you see :P

There are quite a few good mods out there that I can think of. Particularly the Zelda map mod, if you've heard of it. It's amazing.
I won't spoil anything for you (there's plenty of YT vids) just in case you want to give it a go - and you definitely should.

About the console, well yea I guess. But you can still do some awesome stuff using it - and being an admin of a server in particular. Like having an 8 (or more) player campaign. Or even 8 human players playing infected in Survival.

A Zelda mod, eh? Now that sounds worth looking into...

Glad to hear approval!

Also, something I found funny: Even graffiti artists in the post-zombie apocalypse world can't spell "Psycho" properly

I love reading the stuff on the wall, it's brilliant. Like the one that references the Zombie Genocidist achievement, or the Chicago Ted one.

But what's better is when the characters in the game react to the graffti, like when I was playing Zoey and came across a "GOD IS DEAD" graffiti. And then she promptly said: "Oh no! Zombies killed god!" XD
