LEGO Disaster: Ground Zero (Major bandwidth eater!)

Postby PsychoDuck on Sun Mar 30, 2008 6:33 pm

I will not deny it, I love LEGO. And now that I have a good selection of modern LEGO sets (Mostly LEGO City), I decided to build a little diorama. So here is LEGO Disaster: Ground Zero.

Here's what went down: The big green truck was taking a right turn a little too fast, tipping over and crashing into a street sweeper. One man on the sidewalk is also hit. The firefighters and medics arrive and get to work. This is where we come in.

First, a basic overview video:

[flash width=400 height=345]http://media.imeem.com/v/UCN4ZZwMBd/aus=false/pv=2[/flash]

And now, a closer look with pictures.

Kits used:

4996: Beach House (Alternate construction)
7281: T-Junction and Curved Road Plates
7903: Rescue Helicopter (Can't find on the site...)
7906: Fireboat
7242: Street Sweeper
7993: Heavy Hauler

I really liked this setup. I say "liked", because I had to separate the road plates to move it... Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to make another!

You do seem to have a lot of time, don't you? XD

Nice work man, I never seem to have the time to play LEGO (LEGOs?) anymore. I'm not even sure where it mine is...

The video could have done with some music though.

Is there anything Lego can't do?

Anyways, nice setup (I see Spongebob made a small cameo). I never leave my lego out like that, since I always clean it up about a month later XD.

Maybe someday they'll re-release some classic sets. There were some that I actually wish I had. The sets weren't as elaborate, but they were still high quality (enough to leave a hole in my wallet).

Where does Spongebob show up? I can't seem to find him in the pics or video... And I'm pretty sure I knew were all my Sponge stuff was at the time...

As for the classic stuff, I actually dug up a few old minifigures last night. Man, the difference in detail on their faces is insane. Still the same construction, but the old ones all have basic smiley faces. The newer minifigures have facial hair, freckles, and all sorts of stuff.

I believe this is where the sponge hides. Either that, or I need to pick up Flash Focus.

I just got those 30-some-odd community workers today. I LOLed when I figured out that all of their heads were just smiley faces. I guess they didn't want any mixups, or it was just more confusing to organize a bunch of different heads into one bag than just to plop 30 smiley faces in there. But seriously, I have no idea what goes on in a Lego factory.

Oh, you saw the smallest freaking little shred of Sponge just there XD Yeah, that's him.

Image

I can't believe you noticed that. I had to brighten the image to find him in my own bedroom

And were those community workers old or recent releases? If they're recent, I wouldn't be too happy...

I've seen them in the catalogue for a few months. They're obviously quite new with the shiney fireman helmet and the more detailed attire. In fact, you can find the exact product here.

Well, crap, they really are basic. I'm removing that from my LEGO.com wish list. Not worth it to me if they look so damn basic. I like a little personality in my LEGO characters.

Agreed! Imagine Ogle with just a smiley face. He sure would be a lot less menacing.

Ogle was the dude with the red eye (hm, maybe I forgot his name). He had a helmet with a shiny gold faceplate on the front.

He is exclusive to Lego. He's from a while back. He was basically your typical generic evil mastermind.

I lost my gigantic LEGO Block box when we moved, so now I have a tiny box with three Creator sets and some "Mini-Pod" sets. I have made a giant truck, and tried to make some Transformer Legos, which were tight, but I lost the plan a long time ago with the big box.

Man, I don't know what I'd do if I lost a significant part of my LEGO collection. Even missing a few pieces from my Harry Potter LEGO is upsetting...

Good catch there. I always get confused the the "el" "le" thing. English is a really screwy language.
