"I love the Pokémon series of games. Ever since I first got Pokémon Yellow way back in 1999, I've been hooked. I pick up each new game in the main series as soon as possible, even buying Gold Version and Diamond Version on their release dates. I have just about as much fun now as I did all those years ago, but something is starting to feel different about the series. It's not quite like the game I got for Christmas almost a decade ago. I really feel that, in some ways, Pokémon needs to go back to go forward."

I wanted to get writing far earlier than this, but my 'net was being a dork, and I couldn't get to the modem. All's well now, though.

It's funny you should have an article on Pokemon today, because I just hours ago picked up my copy of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time. Maybe you should do an article on your thoughts of Pokemon rip offs like Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Trozie, and the Mystery Dungeon series, unless of course you have already wrote something like that...

There not rip-offs, there spin-offs. There's a world of difference. Laughing

I agree with most of what you said there, although I didn't play the slot machine much anyway so that didn't bother me. And the competition thing! I absolutely agree, it's too much of a time-waster in Pearl & Diamond that I don't even bother with it anymore.

They should really make HMs like defog and rock climb into items. Defog could be easilly replaced by a lantern like in Zelda, while rock climb could be replaced by climbing gear. Too many HMs can be a problem, especially since only 1 or 2 are worthwhile battle moves.

As for the rival thing, I totally agree. The new guy in Diamond is such a wuss, and he has the stupidest haircut I've ever seen.

Rivals need to be jerks, cause if they're not you won't want to throw the ultimate beat-down on them when the time comes to battle them!

Just make the rival a little bit more snobby, and do away with the contests. I',m not too fond of them. And as for HMs, maybe do something like make one for each type a regular strong move, make all of them proportionate with the level, like levels 10-15, power 30, 15 - 30, power 50, 30-50, power 90, and 50 - 100, power 120. Just have fire to burn bushes, ghost to go through walls, psychic to move stuff, and so on.
