Sony E3 Conference

Postby WJUK on Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:36 pm

I didn't pay as much attention in this conference as I had to do something at the time; so I may be hazy on a lot of the details.

In summary:
>RESISTANCE 2 trailer shown; details emerged; big ass monster in demo
>LITTLE BIG PLANET used to help Jack talk about sales data etc.; got to be seen
>LEGO BATMAN will be bundled with PS2 later this year; also comes with Justice League DVD
>Single username sign-in service announced for PSN
>RATCHET AND CLANK: QUEST FOR BOOTY (not that kind of booty) announced for PSN; shorter and at lower price than disk games
>PLAYSTATION HOME trailer shown; game spaces for UNCHARTED, WARHAWK, RESISTANCE
>Movie and video downloads announced for Playstation store; with PSP integration (can move videos to PSP to watch on the go) - available TONIGHT
>RATCHET AND CLANK: SIZE MATTERS bundle for PSP announced for fall (Silver PSP, the game, National Treasure 2 DVD, 1 GB memory card, PSN voucher for Echochrome)
>RESISTANCE: RETRIBUTION announced for PSP; based off PS3 game
>DC UNIVERSE ONLINE trailer shown
>Sony will launch 80GB PS3 later this year
>Apparently developers love the PS3 (according to a Sony reel)
>Video reel of Infamous, Motorstorm etc. shown
>GOD OF WAR III announced and short trailer shown
>MAG (MASSIVE ACTION GAME) announced; 256 simultaneous players on one map; 8-player squads

That's it.

Sony's conference was really meh. They had some cool announcements, but the announcer was just so boring to listen to that I almost fell asleep. Resistance on the PSP looks pretty cool though. Overall I'd say Sony was pretty good. Leagues beyond Nintendo's press conference, yet leagues behind Microsoft's.

...so I didn't miss all that much.

Can't get excited about Resistance 2 when the first was all kinds of "meh"... LOLRachet and Clank... pass on MAG...

God of War 3 interests me though, since the first was great... haven't gotten around to playing the second yet, but I've heard the only real negative is the bosses lack the epic-ness of the first's.

Well the boss they showed from Resistance 2 was pretty epic.

Maybe it was because I wasn't paying as much attention, but out of the 3 I enjoyed Sony's the least. Not to say it was bad. I enjoyed the MS conference the most for some reason. The Nintendo conference started off slow; but picked up near the end.

I saw some of the Sony conference. Most of the time I was asking "Okay, that's neat. But.... Where are all the games?" Too much of it was about movies and pay-per-view racing junk.

They showed more games than Nintendo and Microsoft.

The movies and GT TV (I don't think it's pay-per-view, I'm pretty sure it free) were only about 10 minutes of the 1 hour and 30 min. conference.

Well, perhaps I just came in at a bad time. I must admit, though, Little Big Planet looks like fun. So does Pain.

The original Pain was OK, I got it for free when I bought my PS3, but you only get one character (you have to buy the rest, for 99 cents each), and It only came with one level. (There are no DLC levels) And it looks like it's going to be the same thing with the new one.

Pain: Amusement Park looks about the same as the original.

Little Big Planet looks amazing, too bad I'll probably never get to own it.

The MS conference was still better, it started off extremely well (unlike the Nintendo conference) and I enjoyed the live demoes. Although they were a bit short for my tastes. :P

Microsoft's got so boring once the new dashboard was shown, and I was really expecting FF 13 to be also on the 360 anyway, so that wasn't that exciting for me.

Yea, it did drop off a bit after the demoes. But I was expecting the FFXIII announcement once Wada took the stage to talk about the SE games on the 360. When no word came and he went off, I was sure that was it. Then he comes back and announces it.
