PSP Go "announced": I am not shaken, nor am I stirred

Postby PsychoDuck on Sat May 30, 2009 9:36 pm

"The next in the line of Sony's Playstation Portable was unexpectedly (For both us and Sony, I'm sure) "announced" today, and it's called the PSP Go. Kind of an awkward name, but I'm currently playing Wii everyday, so I suppose I shouldn't be talking."

I can't wait to see all the puns involving that handheld's surname.

I'm not really a fan of the PSP Go either. Haven't played anything on my slim in months, and this doesn't reinvigorate my interest. It also kind of looks like a cell phone that'll look really outdated in a few years.

I can see where they're going with the downloadable software, though. The reason packaged games are more expensive is because of the shipping and manufacturing costs, and downladable games eliminate that equation. I've always hated UMDs anyways.

You'd think so, but it doesn't seem to work out that way for Valve. If Sony doesn't pull the same trick I'll be very surprised.

It's seem Sony has copied Nintendo in making several iterations of a handheld, which financially is a good idea but I have doubts on whether or not the "Go" will actually succeed.

There are too many variables that could fail, the lack of backwards compatibility, the cost of the downloadable games etc.

It could also look better. For some reason it reminds me of the Game Gear. :S
