The worst jobs in gaming

Postby PsychoDuck on Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:59 am

Just about everyone has some sort of complaint about their job. Idiot co-workers, a boss that expects too much, insufficient pay, laughable health coverage... The list goes on. It just can't get any worse, can it? You'd think so, but then you look at some of the jobs some video game characters have to deal with. You're the lucky one. Chances are your job is nowhere near as bad as some of the stuff listed below. What better way to make yourself feel better than to look at what some other jerks have to do for a living, virtual or not? Sit back, relax, and read all about these poor souls who would gladly trade their profession of depression for a more calming career.

AN UPDATE? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS.

*ahem*
Does this mean the hiatus is over?

Anyway, I think you missed out Hooker from pretty much any GTA game too.

Well... Uh... I never thought of that. But Hooker's a pretty crummy job in real life, too. I was kinda going for jobs that are pretty good in real life (Or seem like they would be cool, like gym leader) and saying why they suck in games.

Also, hooker wouldn't really go with the "hard work and determination followed by depressing occupation" trend the other three carried... Unless some people really, really want to be hookers.

...and yes, the "hiatus" is over. I didn't want to call it that for fear of jinxing a return, but now that it's over, I suppose it was technically a hiatus. But it's over. SO PARTY. Or not. I can't control you.

I'll bring the party poppers!

But I thought you were just going for bad jobs in games - as implied with the title. I didn't realise there was a "hard work and determination followed by depressing occupation" trend.

There's always problems with articles like this... You just can't ever cover all the bases.

Umm.... Hi!

I kind of figured you'd be gone forever. Hia... I mean, breaks seem to always just be a less harsh way of conveying the end.

Good article by the way, although I think Gym Leaders are getting smarter. Stupid Gyarados and its earthquake.

I dunno man. You post a couple articles a week, the boards get some consistent activity. You go on "hiatus" (since we're calling it that), the forums go on hiatus.

I think you can control us :shifty:

...I'll bring the soda :D .

(EDIT: Added the last smilie (smily?) face after realizing my message seems almost... bitter, somehow o_O. (I'm just very (very) sleep depraved (PLAYING FAR TOO MUCH MANA KHEMIA)).

Basically, it seems blog activity is tied directly to forum activity.

Now that I've actually read the article, I'd like to add BEGINNING OF QUEST GENERIC SHOPKEEPER to the list. You have to sell stuff at a fixed price, and no matter how much business you get, you'll never compete with the town on the other side of the cave; they're equipment is undeniably better then yours, and only marginally more expensive because your rule #1: DO NOT UPGRADE INVENTORY. What's the deal? All your selling is Wood Swords and Hide Tunics. Any self respecting adventurer setting out to save the world already has his own wooden blade (likely carved from his own tree), so why in the world would he purchase yours? You need to take more initiative. While they're out hunting down the psychopath who slaughters the innocent and helpless, you should be out breeding the Gold Chocobo, or building the airship; that way, when they're looking for the ULTIMATE WEAPON (that only they can use), you can say to them, "Ya know, I came across one of those. I think it's the only one in the world. Price? Oh, hm. Good question. HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE?"

You should just run an inn or something; once they have the airship (*shakes head*) they'll ALWAYS return to take advantage of you... I MEAN, of the great rates and accommodations you provide (despite being L-O-A-D-E-D with gil/gold/zenny).

Haha, what about just generic shopkeepers in dungeons?

I can't imagine how much business they get, if any at all.
